Before you even attempt to play Tetris with your boxes to make them fit into your Infinity Storage unit, you need to prep your storage unit to successfully house your precious belongings. From cleaning, to taking inventory, below are a few steps that you can follow to prepare your Infinity Storage unit before moving your possessions in.

Make sure your unit has enough space for all your belongings

Before booking a storage unit, consider all the items that you would like to store and have a look at the different sized units that Infinity Storage has to offer. If you’ve already gone ahead and booked your storage unit, double check that your belongings will actually fit before you start stacking boxes (believe us; no one wants to realise halfway through that everything simply won’t fit).

A list detailing the type of furniture, other belongings and number of boxes you want to store, can also come in handy when deciding what size unit to book and how to best store everything to make it fit. Still unsure about the unit size that you’ll need, use Infinity Storage’s handy guide right over here.

Ensure that your unit is safe and clean before occupation

Before moving your belongings into one of Infinity Storage’s totally secure storage units, make sure it is clean and well maintained. Examine the unit before moving in your stuff and be sure to inform one of our friendly Infinity Storage staff members if anything doesn’t quite look or feel right. All our Infinity Storage units get thoroughly cleaned once vacated, but it couldn’t hurt giving it a final sweep before placing any boxes or furniture directly on the ground.

An even better idea is to lay down a tarp or some wooden pallets to protect your belongings from weather and pests (but I wouldn’t stress too much about this if I were you, as our entire building is pest controlled).

Prepare your furniture and other belongings for your Infinity Storage unit

If you are planning on storing any type of furniture, make sure they are cleaned and well protected before shutting the door on your unit. This includes:

  • Giving wood furniture a polish with wood wax or a similar product. Also covering wood in plastic or cloth as to not damage the wood. Lucky for you, we stock both bubble wrap and moving blankets, both of these can be utilised to protect wooden furniture.
  • The same applies to leather, wipe down with a leather cleaner or gentle soap.
  • Vacuum your mattress and cover with a plastic mattress cover. You’re in even better luck, as we also stock these.
  • Wipe the inside and outside of appliances such as refrigerators or washing machines. Also remember to not close your refrigerator door all the way to prevent mildew from forming.
  • If you are interested in one of our carports, also make sure to wash your car beforehand and invest in a durable car cover.

Infinity Storage is a one-stop shop for all your storage and moving needs and most of the items mentioned here can be purchased directly from our premises. We stock a variety of different sized boxes, stretch film and other plastic products, mattress covers, moving blankets, tape and other necessities that you might need to make the storage process easier for you. Browse some of the items that we have available here.

Maximise your space by stacking smartly

Start by packing the heaviest items at the bottom of your storage unit. This will help you to create a sturdy base structure on which to stack the rest of your items without them leaning, getting damaged or falling over. Continue stacking boxes, ending with the lightest items on top, but don’t stack so high that it becomes hard to reach. Another top tip is to keep boxes with items that you might frequently need at the front of the storage unit for easy access.
